He actively participated in the 1955-59 liberation struggle of Cyprus. For his activities he was arrested twice and tortured at the Omorphita interrogating place by the special forces of the Colonial Government. A price was put on his head for a third arrest and was wanted by the British Security Forces until the end of the struggle Member of the EDMA (Integrated Fighters Reconstruction Front) Committee (1959-1961) and one of the founding members of APOLLON Sports Club (1955) in Limassol.
He was appointed at the diplomatic service of the Republic of Cyprus from which he retired with the rank of Ambassador) (1961-1982). He served in the central service of the Foreign Ministry of Affairs and in the Embassies of the Republic in Athens and in Cairo. He participated in many diplomatic missions to the United Nations ,the UN Security Council, the Council of Europe and the European Union and represented Cyprus at Conferences of the Non Aligned Movement and the Commonwealth.

Member of the Selection Committee of the House, and also Member of the International Parliamentary Union (I.P.U) (1991-1993)

The Greek government has awarded him the medal of the Grand Cross of Honour and the Silver Cross of the Phoenix and the Patriarch of Alexandria the Cross of Evangelist Mark Order A’

He is married and has three children.

Andreas Chr. Philippides

Graduated from the Greek Gymnasium Paphos. He participated in the struggle against the British Colonial Government, for more than a period of 34 months until the end of the struggle.

He studied as a teacher in the Pedagogical Academy Athens and Law in Athens University and worked as administrative officer in the Ministry of Interior. He served as Deputy Migration Officer and he retired as Director of Management and Protection of the abandoned Turkish/Cypriot Properties service.

Since 1999 he is a partner and consultants with Dinos Michaelides LLC as the supervisor of the Labor and Migration Department.

He is married with 2 children.
